The Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly has distanced itself from a call by Mazi Okwu Nnabuike for the dissolution of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) Board.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Assembly’s leader, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, said Nnabuike does not represent any organ of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide or its youth wing, stressing that his views are personal.

Okpalaezeukwu said the Assembly, which comprises major Igbo youth and stakeholder groups, is closely monitoring concerns surrounding the SEDC and will address them during its convention scheduled for June 18–19, 2026, in Awka, Anambra State.

He said the convention would review issues relating to the commission’s management and performance, adding that the Assembly remains committed to ensuring transparency and the proper use of resources meant for the development of the South East.

The group urged Igbo youths to remain calm, assuring them that its position on the SEDC and other regional development matters would be communicated after the convention.
