The Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Peter Chigozie Azubuike, has said the rising influence of Governor Alex Otti has triggered massive growth for the party across the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Azubuike made the remarks during the official declaration of Charles Nwosu to contest for the Obingwa West State Constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly on the Labour Party platform.
According to the party chairman, the LP has witnessed a surge in political interest, revealing that no fewer than 24 aspirants had, within one week, indicated interest in contesting House of Assembly seats under the party.
He described the development as a clear sign that the Labour Party is gaining momentum in Abia and positioning itself strongly for victory in the 2027 general elections.
Azubuike commended Nwosu for stepping forward to contest the seat and expressed confidence in his chances.
Speaking during his declaration, Nwosu attributed the growing popularity of the party to Governor Otti’s performance in office, particularly in infrastructure renewal and governance reforms.
He maintained that the governor’s achievements in road reconstruction and other critical sectors had strengthened public confidence in the Labour Party.
“While the Labour Party entered the 2023 elections like a sheep, it will approach 2027 like a lion,” Nwosu stated, describing the party as more organised, aggressive and prepared for future electoral contests.
Nwosu also said his ambition was driven by the need to address what he described as longstanding political imbalance in Obingwa West, noting that the Ahiaba/Abayi bloc had not produced a House of Assembly member since 1999.
He pledged to prioritise fairness, equity and the welfare of the people if given the mandate to represent the constituency, while reaffirming his loyalty to Governor Otti and the Labour Party.
