The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor, has urged the Anambra State Government to address alleged excesses by operatives of the Agunaechemba security outfit established under the state’s Operation Udo Ga-Achi initiative.
Speaking during the third session of the seventh synod of Aguata Diocese at St. Andrew’s Parish, Ezira, Bishop Ezeofor alleged that some operatives engage in intimidation and other activities capable of undermining public confidence in the security initiative.
While acknowledging the government’s good intentions in establishing the outfit, he said the conduct of some operatives was giving the programme a negative image and called for urgent intervention.
The bishop also appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to ensure fairness in government appointments, alleging an imbalance that favours one Christian denomination over others.
Commenting on national issues, Ezeofor expressed concern over insecurity, including banditry, terrorism and kidnappings, and called for stronger efforts to protect lives and property.
He also urged the Federal Government to revive the economy and improve citizens’ living standards.
The cleric further warned against any development that could push Nigeria toward a one-party state, citing the increasing defection of politicians to the ruling APC.
Also speaking, Chancellor of Aguata Diocese, Justice Pete Obiora, stressed the need for cooperation between clergy and laity in raising a godly generation and commended Bishop Ezeofor’s leadership.
