Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has congratulated Bende women on their successful 2026 August Women Meeting while urging political leaders to honour agreements reached in good faith.
The annual gathering, held on Monday at the Bende Local Government Headquarters, brought together women from communities across the constituency.
Anyaso praised the women for sustaining the tradition, describing the August Meeting as an important platform for unity, fellowship and community development.
He, however, used the occasion to make a strong appeal to leaders to keep their promises, stressing that agreements should not be discarded simply because circumstances have changed.
He particularly cited the 2019 agreement on the rotation of representation in Bende Federal Constituency, arguing that those who entered into the arrangement should respect it.
According to Anyaso, the agreement provided that after Ikwuisi, an Umunna man would represent the constituency in the House of Representatives for eight years.
He expressed his readiness to offer himself for the position, saying he was confident of victory with the support of the people.
Anyaso maintained that keeping one’s word was essential to building trust, sustaining relationships and promoting peace in society.
He thanked the Bende women for their warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to programmes that would improve women’s welfare, empowerment and economic opportunities in the constituency.
The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, represented at the event by Dr. Ezinn Kalu, also urged the women to continue supporting the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
