APGA senatorial candidate hails engineers as nation builders at UNIZIK lecture

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, has described engineers as nation builders and key drivers of economic growth.


Speaking as Chairman of the 2026 UNIZIK Faculty of Engineering Lecture Series in Awka, themed “Engineering Pathways to Economic Sustainability: Unlocking Opportunities in Agripreneurship, Oil and Gas, and Beyond,” Nwankwo urged engineers to apply their knowledge in developing innovative solutions that would boost national development.


“I am not an engineer, but I had the basic knowledge, passion and ideas that got me to where I am today,” he said.


Declaring the event open, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, commended the faculty for selecting a theme focused on economic sustainability.

The Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, called on engineers to create value and drive national development through innovation.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Engr. Prof. Ugochukwu Okonkwo, said the lecture series was designed to strengthen collaboration between the university and industry through training, scholarships, grants and strategic partnerships.


The event also featured awards presented to policymakers, industry leaders and education stakeholders for their contributions to the engineering, energy and agricultural sectors.
