The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the government, congratulating Nigerian workers on the occasion.
He commended workers across the country for their resilience, hard work, and unwavering dedication to national development, noting that their contributions remain vital to Nigeria’s growth and prosperity.
In a statement, the minister urged workers to embrace patriotism, productivity, and commitment to duty, stressing that these values are essential for sustainable national development.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria is committed to supporting the welfare and security of all workers and creating a conducive environment for economic growth,” he said.
While wishing workers a fulfilling celebration, Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding, encouraging them to reflect on the importance of unity and diligence in nation-building.
