Anambra rolls out red carpet for retiring Police Chief as Soludo hails AIG Orutugu’s outstanding legacy

The Anambra State Government and the Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday rolled out the red carpet for the immediate past Commissioner of Police, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Ikioye Orutugu, as a series of activities marking his birthday, retirement and promotion came to a grand conclusion.

The celebrations, which commenced on August 3 with his birthday, culminated on August 5 with a colourful ceremonial pull-out parade at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters, Awka, and a State Executive Council send-forth ceremony hosted by the Anambra State Government.

Birthday Celebration Opens Week of Honours

The week-long celebration began with prayers, goodwill messages and tributes in appreciation of God’s faithfulness throughout AIG Orutugu’s life and distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force.

Heads of sister security agencies, government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders joined family members and friends to celebrate the senior police officer, praying for good health, peace and greater accomplishments in his retirement.

Soludo Applauds Exceptional Leadership

At the State Executive Council send-forth ceremony, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo described AIG Orutugu as an exceptional police officer whose tenure significantly strengthened security architecture in Anambra State.

The Governor, alongside senior government officials, praised the retired police chief for fostering strong police-community relations, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, building strategic security partnerships and recording remarkable operational successes against crime and criminality.

The State Government also commended his collaborative style of leadership, unwavering commitment to public safety and efforts in boosting public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force throughout his service as Commissioner of Police in the state.

Colourful Pull-Out Parade Marks End of Illustrious Career

One of the highlights of the celebration was the ceremonial Pull-Out Parade held at the Command Headquarters in Awka.

The colourful event attracted serving and retired police officers, government officials, traditional rulers, family members, friends and other distinguished guests who gathered to honour the retiring officer for decades of dedicated service to the nation.

Conducted in line with the long-standing traditions of the Nigeria Police Force, the parade formally signified the conclusion of AIG Orutugu’s illustrious policing career.

The ceremony featured parade inspection, ceremonial procession, conferment of policing honours and glowing tributes from colleagues and stakeholders, who described him as a consummate professional, exemplary leader and advocate of people-oriented policing.

Police Command Appreciates Stakeholders

The Anambra State Police Command expressed profound appreciation to the Anambra State Government, sister security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders, community leaders and residents of the state for their unwavering support throughout AIG Orutugu’s tenure.

The Command also wished the retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police good health, a fulfilling retirement and greater success in the next phase of his life.

It further reassured Ndi Anambra of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining the security gains achieved under AIG Orutugu’s leadership.
