Anambra Police Command engages protest organisers over electricity complaints, advocate dialogue

The Anambra State Police Command has held a strategic meeting with organisers of a planned protest over persistent electricity failure and alleged overestimated billing in the state.

During the meeting

The protest, tagged “Enough Is Enough,” was aimed at drawing attention to the challenges residents face regarding poor power supply and disputed electricity bills.

According to a statement issued on March 9, 2026 by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga the meeting took place at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters in Awka and lasted for several hours.

During the discussions, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Ibrahim Ezekiel, acknowledged the concerns raised by the organisers regarding electricity supply and billing practices affecting residents.

He, however, advised the group to pursue constructive dialogue and engagement with the relevant authorities responsible for electricity regulation and distribution, rather than embarking on street protests that could disrupt public order.

The Command emphasised the importance of peaceful and lawful channels in addressing public grievances and encouraged stakeholders to explore institutional mechanisms for resolving the issues affecting electricity consumers in the state.

The Anambra State Police Command also reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order while promoting peaceful engagement between citizens and relevant authorities.
