Anambra NYCN elects IKC Onuorah as State Chairman

Comrade IKC Onuorah has been elected Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, following the 2026 Unity Congress held in Awka.


Onuorah secured 75 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nonso Nwebili, who polled 63 votes in the keenly contested election conducted by 140 delegates.


The newly elected executive includes Thankgod Nwafor as Deputy Chairman, Uchenna Ejeri (Vice Chairman, South), Menkiti Oliseli (North), Akuwenze Chukwunonso (Central), Chimaobi Kingsley Egwu (Secretary), and Chinonso Onyeanusi (Public Relations Officer), among others.


Outgoing Chairman, Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi, described the congress as a landmark in the Council’s history, praising members for ensuring a peaceful, free and transparent election.

He thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghamba, for their support and urged the new leadership to sustain unity and carry members along.


Chairman of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Youths, Dr. Augustine Ike, represented by Vincent Okoro-Orji, commended the outgoing executive and encouraged the new leadership to build on its achievements.


Youth leaders and former NYCN chairmen also praised the peaceful conduct of the election, urging the new executive to avoid politicising the Council and remain committed to youth development.


In his acceptance speech, Onuorah pledged to run an inclusive administration focused on youth empowerment, value reorientation and strategic partnerships.

He promised to work with all contestants and stakeholders to advance the interests of young people across Anambra State.
