Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the IGP Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) have recovered two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and other police-related items during a sustained raid on a suspected cultists’ hideout in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The operation, conducted on the evening of June 20, 2026, targeted the notorious black spot at Nwaziki Street, Awada, a location believed to be a hub for cult-related activities.
Although no suspect was arrested during the raid, investigations have commenced to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects, establish ownership of the recovered exhibits and dismantle any criminal network linked to the items.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, commended the operatives for their proactive, intelligence-led policing and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain aggressive raids against criminal elements and their hideouts across the state.
The Command assured residents that ongoing intelligence-driven operations would continue to deny criminals safe havens and enhance security across Anambra State.
