The Anambra State Police Command has raised the alarm over an alleged breach of the peace agreement reached after an on-the-spot assessment of the lingering crisis between Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The assessment was led by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, alongside military personnel, top government officials, other security agencies and community stakeholders, following a reported arson incident in the area.
The Command condemned the reported resort to violence, destruction of property and other acts capable of undermining peace and security in the affected communities.
CP Nnanna, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, commended community leaders, government officials, security stakeholders and residents who have continued to respect the agreed peace resolution and avoid actions capable of escalating the situation.
He urged all parties to exercise restraint and allow ongoing engagements and lawful processes to address their grievances, stressing that peaceful resolution of disputes remained essential to sustainable peace and development.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Command has deployed strategic security measures in the affected areas and commenced efforts to identify and apprehend persons suspected of violating the peace resolution or participating in the reported arson and other criminal activities.
The Commissioner warned that no individual or group would be allowed to take the law into their own hands, stressing that anyone found culpable after due investigation would face the full weight of the law.
The Command also appealed to traditional rulers, town union leaders, youth leaders, women’s groups and other stakeholders in both communities to continue working with the Police and other security agencies to sustain calm and prevent further escalation.
The Police assured residents of Anambra State that the Command remained committed to protecting lives and property through dialogue, intelligence-led policing and lawful enforcement measures aimed at restoring and sustaining peace in the affected communities.
Members of the public were urged to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information about persons or groups planning to disrupt the peace through appropriate security channels.
