Iyiowa Odekpe residents beg Soludo to rebuild dilapidated primary school

Residents of Iyiowa Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State have appealed to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to urgently reconstruct Community Primary School, Iyiowa, which has deteriorated into a deplorable condition.

The school, built in 2010 under the UBE/PN/2010 intervention project, is now surrounded by thick bushes and submerged in swampy, waterlogged grounds, making classrooms inaccessible to pupils and teachers.

The community’s Chairman, Mr. Sunday Peter Obinze, who visited the school with other executives, described the situation as alarming, warning that children were exposed to dangerous reptiles, mosquitoes and possible water-borne diseases.

Obinze said Soludo had promised during his second-term campaign to reconstruct the school and the community’s access road. While expressing gratitude for the ongoing road project, he urged the governor to fulfil his promise concerning the school.

“We are grateful to the Governor because he has fulfilled his promise on the road. Work is ongoing, but the primary school is still pending. The condition is too terrible for our children in this modern age,” he said.

The community’s Secretary-General, Dr. Chukwunonso Okoli, presented a letter of appeal dated September 18, 2026, and acknowledged on September 30, urging the governor to intervene.

The letter was copied to relevant government officials, including the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, the Commissioner for Education and the Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB).

Other residents, including Chief Christopher Mgbike, Mr. Loveday Udechukwu Awa and Mrs. Esther Igwe, also appealed for urgent intervention, stressing that the school environment posed serious risks to children and teachers.

The community urged Soludo to prioritise the reconstruction of the school and provide the children with a safe learning environment.
