ADC leaders, Obi consider move to NDC ahead of 2027

Mr Peter Obi

Top figures in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including Peter Obi, are reportedly considering a switch to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move follows internal disputes within the ADC and uncertainty stemming from a recent Supreme Court of Nigeria ruling, which returned the party’s leadership case to a lower court without resolving key issues.

Sources say Obi and his allies are concerned about the party’s structure, ongoing litigations, and zoning disagreements.

Talks with NDC leaders, including Seriake Dickson, are said to be ongoing, with the party reportedly open to offering Obi its presidential ticket.

While Obi’s camp has not confirmed the defection, his supporters insist he will contest in 2027 on a viable platform.

Meanwhile, some ADC leaders are also weighing defection, citing fears that unresolved legal battles could weaken the party before the elections.

In a related development, former Adamawa governorship candidate Aishatu Binani has officially joined the NDC, describing the party as structured and policy-driven.

ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi, however, dismissed reports of a mass defection, insisting the party remains intact.
