Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has ranked fifth among Nigeria’s most sought-after universities in the 2025 UTME, according to Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during the 2026 admissions policy meeting in Abuja.

The ranking shows Lagos State University (70,080 applicants) leading, followed by University of Lagos (58,645), University of Ilorin (56,758), and Federal University Oye-Ekiti (52,108). UNIZIK recorded 51,487 applicants.

Other institutions in the top 10 include University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Benin, Obafemi Awolowo University, and Federal University Lafia.

JAMB noted that top institutions continue to attract high applications due to reputation, stable calendars, and graduate employability.

UNIZIK’s spokesperson, Aloysius Emeka Attah, expressed confidence the university could reach the top three in future rankings, citing improved stability and academic standards under Vice Chancellor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.
