The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State has witnessed a major show of strength as Hon. Dominic Okey Nwuzor, the party’s candidate for Awka North/South Federal Constituency, formally flagged off his campaign in Nibo Ward II.
The campaign launch, held on Monday, attracted prominent ADC leaders and thousands of supporters who gathered to demonstrate their solidarity with Nwuzor, popularly known as “Ududo” (the Spider) because of his extensive network of supporters.
Among the party chieftains at the event were former national chairman and founder of the ADC, Chief Raph Okey Nwosu; the Anambra State Chairman, Rt. Hon. BenChuks Nwosu; the ADC Chairman in Enugu State; a member of the National Executive Council, Hon. C. C. Okeke; and the party’s state woman leader, Hon. Mrs. Nkechi Oguelina.
The traditional ruler of Nibo, Igwe Ezike, was represented at the event by members of his cabinet.
The colourful ceremony, marked by enthusiastic speeches, dancing and cultural displays, particularly the appearance of the Ijele and elephant masquerades, provided a strong platform for Nwuzor to unveil his campaign agenda to his constituents.
Speaking at the event, Nwuzor explained that he deliberately chose his ward as the starting point of his campaign because “charity begins at home.”
He appealed to the people to support his candidacy, assuring them that they would not regret entrusting him with the mandate to represent them at the National Assembly.
Nwuzor promised to establish a performance index for the constituency and ensure that the needs of individual communities were identified and addressed.
He said his priorities would focus on healthcare, skill acquisition and youth empowerment, while pledging to maintain regular contact with constituents throughout his tenure.
Unlike representatives who, according to him, only remember their constituents during election periods, Nwuzor promised to remain accessible and accountable.
“I will not be a sleeping legislator. You will hear my voice in the National Assembly on a daily basis,” he declared.
Former ADC national chairman and founder, Chief Raph Okey Nwosu, called on the people of Nibo to rally behind Nwuzor and end what he described as a prolonged absence of effective representation from the community.
Nwosu recalled that since Hon. Ozor Ughammadu represented the constituency in 1999, no other person from Nibo had attained similar prominence in the representation of the federal constituency.
He argued that Nwuzor’s victory would bring greater development opportunities and political advantages to Nibo.
Turning to the 2027 presidential election, Nwosu expressed confidence that the ADC presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, would emerge victorious.
He predicted that Atiku would secure substantial support in northern Nigeria and win enough votes from at least four states in the South to emerge victorious.
According to him, “no other candidate has as much advantage as Atiku.”
Also speaking, the ADC Anambra State Chairman, Rt. Hon. BenChuks Nwosu, urged Nwuzor and his supporters to intensify their campaign across the constituency, particularly in the Obizi power bloc, which he described as a significant voting bloc.
He said the party carefully selected Nwuzor because of its confidence in his ability to win the election and provide effective representation.
The chairman also commended the women supporters, particularly members of the Ududo Support Group, for their commitment and urged them to sustain the mobilisation.
Hon. C. C. Okeke said Nwuzor was given the ADC ticket because the party was convinced that he had the capacity to deliver victory.
He commended him for choosing his home ward for the campaign flag-off and pledged his support for his candidacy.
The ADC woman leader, Hon. Mrs. Nkechi Oguelina, pledged to mobilise women across the constituency for Nwuzor’s victory.
Nwuzor’s eldest brother, Sir Edwin Chira Nwuzor, described the candidate as trustworthy and a man of his word, urging voters to give him their support.
The event ended on a colourful note with traditional dances and masquerade displays, including the famous Ijele and elephant masquerades.
