The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State chapter, has declared its readiness to support the state government in preventing and responding to any Ebola outbreak.

The association said it was mobilising its five zonal structures in Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Aguata and Ihiala to intensify public awareness and promote preventive measures across the state.

The state chairman, Dr Ndubuisi Arua, disclosed this in Onitsha during the association’s 2026 Physicians Week, themed “Securing the Future of Medicine in Nigeria.”
Arua said the association would educate medical practitioners on the signs and symptoms of Ebola to promote vigilance and early detection.

He added that NMA was conducting public awareness campaigns through radio and television, alongside campaigns on environmental sanitation, food hygiene and personal hygiene.

According to him, the association is also working to ensure the availability of personal protective equipment, drugs and other essential medical supplies in hospitals, clinics and treatment centres.

“NMA is ever ready to help the government and people of the state as a group and in our individual places of work in the fight to prevent and treat Ebola disease,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Igwebuike Onyiaorah stressed that securing the future of medicine required a holistic approach involving all stakeholders in healthcare delivery.

Also speaking, Prof. Chigozie Ifeadike urged doctors to prioritise their personal well-being, noting that physicians must take care of themselves to remain healthy and effectively care for their patients.

The Physicians Week featured discussions on physician well-being, burnout prevention, cardiovascular disease, digital health innovation and future-ready medical education.
