Stakeholders of Arewa, the Hausa community in Anambra State have condemned a statement over the candidacy of Governor Charles Soludo credited to one Hussaini Haruna who claimed to be the leader of Hausa community in the State.
Haruna reportedly said that the Hausa community in Anambra has rejected the candidacy of Governor Soludo for the forthcoming election and has pitched their tenth with Ozo Jeff Nweke of Action Alliance (AA) Party.
Leader of the Arewa community in Anambra North senatorial zone and Sarkin Hausawan of Onitsha, Alhaji Iliyasu Yushau in a statement issued in Onitsha on Friday said that though the Arewa community has not formally endorsed any candidate in the forthcoming election in Anambra State, they have no reason to reject Governor Soludo whom he said has performed creditably in various indices of governance within the three years plus of his first term in office.
Alhaji Iliyasu who is the oldest Arewa leader in Anambra State having been born and brought up in the State, expressed regret that some desperate individuals are in a hurry to make political gains from the upcoming governorship election in the State and added that no meeting has been conveyed yet to endorse a certain governorship candidate in the State while there is no title as the leader of Hausa community in Anambra State.
“We only have three leaders from each of the senatorial zones of Anambra North, Central and South Zones and none of them bears such name. Therefore, the said endorsement if any, was his personal opinion and not that of the Hausa community in Anambra state, ”he said.
While reiterating their support for the Soludo administration, he said that the Arewa community in the State would make their position known at the right time regarding the forthcoming election in Anambra.
