APWEN inspires future female engineers through Anambra schools STEM quiz

Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Awka Chapter, has organized a STEM quiz competition for SS2 female students in government secondary schools in Anambra State to encourage more girls to pursue engineering careers.


The competition, tagged “Who Wants to Be an Engineer?”, was held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University and featured students from three schools in Awka South Local Government Area competing in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Basic Engineering.


Community Secondary School, Amansea emerged overall winner with 14 points, ahead of Nneoma Community Secondary School, Nibo (13 points) and Community Secondary School, Mbaukwu (12 points).

The top three schools received cash prizes of N80,000, N50,000 and N40,000 respectively.


APWEN Awka Chairman, Engr. Dr. Ifeyinwa Dimson, said the competition was organised in honour of late APWEN President, Engr. Funmilola Ojelade to inspire more girls to embrace STEM and engineering careers.


Resource person, Engr. Dr. Nneka Ezeani said the initiative was aimed at increasing students’ interest in engineering-related subjects and exposing them to opportunities in the profession.
