United States President Donald Trump has claimed that recent US military strikes in Nigeria helped halt the mass killing of Christians by terrorists, saying the operation eliminated key terrorist leaders and significantly reduced attacks on Christian communities.

Speaking at an event in Washington over the weekend, Trump said the military action targeted the leadership of the terrorist group responsible for the attacks, warning that any further violence would attract even stronger US retaliation.

According to him, the strikes largely ended the widespread killings of Christians in Nigeria.

‘Thousands Were Being Slaughtered’

Trump described the attacks on Christian communities as horrific, alleging that thousands of women, children and elderly people had been murdered before the intervention.

“As you know, we recently struck Nigeria and largely ended the slaughter of great Christian populations. They have a great Christian population.

They were being butchered. Thousands and thousands of people were being killed—children, women, old people—just being slaughtered, hacked to death,” he said.

‘We Took Out Their Top Leaders’

The US President said the operation dealt a crushing blow to the terrorist group by eliminating its top commanders, adding that the action had deterred further attacks.

“They know that if they go further, the attack will be far greater, and they don’t want to get involved anymore. We hit them very hard. We knocked out their leader, their second leader and their third leader,” Trump stated.

Compares Nigeria Operation With Iran Strikes

Trump said the operation in Nigeria formed part of his administration’s broader strategy to protect Christians around the world and combat terrorist organisations wherever they operate.

Drawing a comparison with recent US military action against Iran, he said both operations were aimed at neutralising major security threats.

“It sounds a little bit like Iran, actually. It’s all about a different cause because we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

Vows Relentless Offensive Against Terrorists

Reaffirming his commitment to protecting Christians globally, Trump said his administration would continue to pursue terrorists wherever they are found.

“I’m saving Christians throughout the world… We’re hitting these terrorists very violently and very hard with the greatest weapons on earth. We know where they are. We hunt them down and we take them out. They go into a village and just kill everybody. It’s crazy,” he said.

He also warned against what he described as growing threats to religious freedom, claiming that some political forces were attempting to undermine religion and could eventually threaten churches if left unchecked.
