Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has pledged collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to promote voter education, peaceful elections and positive behavioural change across the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by an NOA delegation led by South-East Zonal Director, Theresa Maduka, Mefor said the ministry’s value reformation mandate aligns with the agency’s objective of citizen orientation and enlightenment.
He stressed the need to combine public sensitisation with enforcement of laws to achieve lasting behavioural change, citing the state government’s security initiatives as examples.
On voter apathy, Mefor urged authorities to strengthen public trust in democratic processes, noting that Anambra citizens are politically conscious and would participate more actively if confidence in the system improves.
He also proposed the establishment of a joint committee to deepen cooperation between the ministry and NOA.
Earlier, Anambra NOA Director, Ifeoma Chijioke, and Maduka sought the ministry’s support in tackling social vices and boosting civic responsibility.
Maduka expressed concern over low voter turnout despite the state’s high literacy rate and urged citizens to participate actively in elections. She also decried the growing involvement of youths in cybercrime and called for intensified campaigns promoting positive values and responsible conduct.
