Security operatives allegedly kill only son in Mgbakwu, spark protest

Residents of Mgbakwu community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State have protested the alleged killing of a 26-year-old man, Chinyeaka Ike, by operatives of the Udogachi security outfit and Special Anti-Tout Squad (SASA).


The incident reportedly occurred on April 30 when security operatives stormed Amaeze village. Eyewitnesses claimed the victim was shot while attempting to flee, despite no incriminating items being found on him.


The killing triggered outrage, with protesters taking the victim’s body to the state government house, demanding justice and an end to alleged extrajudicial actions.


Community members also alleged similar incidents in the past, including the killing of a woman during a security operation last year.


Reacting, Anambra State Government officials described the incident as unfortunate and confirmed that the police and Department of State Services (DSS) have been directed to investigate the incident.

Authorities also urged calm and promised dialogue with community representatives.
