Calls have intensified for the cancellation of the APGA primary election for Ogbaru 1 State Constituency following alleged irregularities and violence during the May 23 exercise in Okpoko.
A frontline aspirant and Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Chief Hon. Kenneth Akwuobi, accused incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Noble Igwe, of disrupting the exercise in several wards and alleged that fake accreditation cards bearing Igwe’s photograph were discovered.
Another aspirant, Hon. Stephen Nnamezie, also demanded cancellation of the primary over alleged irregularities, while APGA youth leader in Okpoko Ward 6, Elochukwu Alagbaosu, claimed he was assaulted while trying to stop the misconduct.
Reacting, Hon. Noble Igwe denied the allegations, insisting he neither imported thugs nor manipulated the process. He explained that the cards were campaign materials mistakenly brought to the venue.
A senior police officer at Okpoko Police Division also denied reports of arrests, saying officers only recovered printed materials abandoned by fleeing suspects.
