Explosion of unexploded ordnance kills 14 IRGC members in Iran

At least 14 members of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have been killed following the detonation of unexploded ordnance left behind from recent hostilities, according to local media reports.

A report by Nournews, which is believed to have close ties to Iran’s security establishment, said the explosion occurred near Zanjan, a city located Northwest of Tehran.

The incident marks the deadliest reported loss involving IRGC personnel since a ceasefire came into effect on April 7.

According to the report, the explosion was triggered by remnants of munitions used during the conflict, including cluster bombs and aerial mines.

The presence of unexploded ordnance in former conflict zones continues to pose significant risks, even after active fighting has ceased.
