Human rights lawyer, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor has said that he withdrew from representing IPOB leader in December 2023, as he dismisses claims he was recently sacked
Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor clarified that he voluntarily withdrew from representing IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu in December 2023, long before Kanu’s conviction and life sentence.
In a statement titled “Setting the Record Straight,” Ejiofor said reports suggesting he was recently removed as Kanu’s lawyer were misleading because he had already ended his legal representation in every capacity.
He explained that while he no longer represents Kanu personally, his law firm remains under a valid retainer as solicitors to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He said the firm has secured the discharge and acquittal of more than 200 alleged IPOB members in courts across Abuja, Ebonyi, and Abia since 2023.
Ejiofor also noted that any communication purportedly issued by an inmate must comply with the authentication requirements of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, warning against publishing unauthenticated letters.
He maintained that the records of his withdrawal and his firm’s continued role as IPOB’s solicitors are publicly verifiable.
