Jubilation in Anambra as CP Orutugu, ex-CP Itam bag coveted AIG rank

The Anambra State Police Command has celebrated the promotion of its substantive Commissioner of Police, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).


Also elevated is the immediate past Commissioner of Police in the state, AIG Nnaghe Obono Itam, psc(+), PhD, who was decorated alongside other senior officers during a colourful ceremony at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.


The Command described the simultaneous promotion of both the serving and immediate past Commissioners of Police as a remarkable milestone, saying it reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s recognition of exceptional leadership, professionalism, dedication to duty and unwavering commitment to public service.

According to the Command, both senior officers distinguished themselves during their respective tenures in Anambra by providing strategic leadership that strengthened security operations, deepened collaboration with stakeholders, boosted public confidence and enhanced safety across the state.


It noted that the elevation is a fitting reward for their invaluable contributions to the Force and the nation.


The Command further expressed pride in the achievement, stressing that the promotions reinforce its commitment to excellence, professionalism and effective policing.


Officers and men of the Command congratulated the two newly promoted AIGs, expressing confidence that their wealth of experience, visionary leadership and commitment to the ideals of the Nigeria Police Force would continue to inspire greater achievements in their new responsibilities.


The Command also wished AIG Ikioye Orutugu and AIG Nnaghe Obono Itam continued success, sound health and greater accomplishments as they continue to serve the Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria with honour, integrity and distinction.
