The Labour Party (LP) has expressed confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections despite the exit of its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The party demonstrated its readiness for the polls after successfully conducting its senatorial and House of Representatives primaries in Anambra State.

Those who emerged as candidates through a consensus arrangement include Venerable Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Barrister Kachi Aghasili for Awka North/Awka South Federal Constituency, Hon. Anthony Ikenna Okafor for Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, and Mrs. Ifeoma Obii-Okoye for Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency.

Declaring the results in Awka, Returning Officer Iduma Christian Mayor described the exercise as peaceful and orderly, congratulating the successful candidates.

Speaking after the primaries, the candidates pledged to work for the development of their constituencies and urged party members to remain united and intensify grassroots mobilization ahead of the elections.

Anambra LP Chairman, Hon. Peter Okoye, commended stakeholders, including INEC, security agencies, civil society groups, and the media, for their roles in the process.

He expressed optimism that the party would perform strongly in 2027 and retain its existing seats.

Okoye reaffirmed that the Labour Party remains committed to its core values as a workers’ party with roots in the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
