The 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has re-emphasized his readiness to run for presidency in 2027, saying that nobody is better than him, as he debunked the rumour that he has dumped LP for African Democratic Party (ADC).

Obi made the declaration at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, Anambra State in a symbolic rally, weekend,  when he gave the LP candidate for Anamabra November 8 governorship election, George Moghalu and his deputy, Ifeoma Okaro flag of the party to run.

He categorically said that he and all the members of the LP both at the State and national level are part of the coalition that have adopted ADC for 2027 election.

“Today, we’re LP members. That’s why we’re here for symbolic flag off of the campaign for the LP flag bearer, Dr George Moghalu and his deputy.

“Dr Moghalu and his running mate are coming to replicate the positive change we brought to Anambra when I was the Governor.

“We urge you to go to your constituencies and convince people. You live in Anambra so I don’t need to tell you what’s happening here.

“You can assess by yourselves. Governance for me is about compassion and empathy, caring for the lowly, petty traders and the downtrodden.

“Is it not this same poor masses that they tax, instead of ensuring that they are well fed and go to school.

“I’ve governed Anambra State and I don’t boast of things I didn’t do. They are verifiable.

“You might have heard that the only thing I did was building a brewery. But the same brewery gave employment to thousands of people. The brewery is the highest tax payer in the State and internally generating revenue company in Anambra.

“You can compare that with the fun city you have today in the State and know which one is more profitable.

“The party carefully searched for a credible, competent and capable personality and unanimously agreed on Dr Moghalu.

“We chose a female deputy governor. because we want to care for families. She’s not only popular, but organized.

“Let me remind you that I’m contesting for president in 2027 and I’m serious about it. It’s no longer news. Everyone has right to contest, and none of them is better than me.

“I have the backing of the Senators, Representatives and others, “Obi said.

Chief Moghalu in his speech promised quality governance that would reflect the ideals of his party of caring for families.

He said his administration would ask people to pay tax but would be civil and never to unleash pestle-wielding touts on the tax payers in the State.

The State Chairman of LP, who was represented by Ven Chris Orajiekwe welcomed everyone to the flag off rally. He announced that it was time to shake Anambra State for positive changes.

He declared  that the State is not exclusively owned by any individual, adding that Anambra would henceforth become an LP State.

He assured of the capacity and capability of the party in Anambra which he noted has massive structures across the twenty one local government areas of the State.

“LP will deliver Ndi-Anambra from Ndi aka odo (pestle wielders) and bad governance. Local government areas will have functional health centers, effective security network, where people can sleep with their two eyes closed, “he added.

The event was heavily attended by party big wigs including deputy national Chairman of the party, Clement Ojukwu; Senator Victor Umeh; Senator Tony Nwoye; Hon George Ozodinobi;  Hon Emeka Idu; Prof Lilian Orogbu; Hon Uchenna Okonkwo; and a representative of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.
