The Federal Government has come up with a new digital education platform that will track every Nigerian learner from primary school through tertiary education and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS) will assign each learner a unique 16-digit identification number, creating a lifelong education record to improve planning, monitoring and accountability.
According to him, about 240,000 public and private schools have already been geo-tagged on the platform.
The system will also capture data on teachers, school infrastructure, safety and learning facilities.
Alausa said the government is working with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to harmonise the Learner Identification Number with the National Identification Number (NIN).
He added that the platform will help authorities quickly identify pupils who drop out of school, enabling timely intervention to reduce Nigeria’s out-of-school population.
The minister disclosed that future phases will integrate data from WAEC, NECO, JAMB and NYSC, while also introducing labour market analytics to guide students toward courses that match employment opportunities.
He assured that the system is designed to work both online and offline, with the Federal Government also rolling out solar-powered digital learning centres across schools to support the initiative.
