The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform the hospital into a world-class healthcare institution.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the President General of Awka Development Union (ADU), Chief Fred Chinwuba, the CMD highlighted key achievements recorded within her first 100 days in office.
According to her, the reforms include the digitalization of hospital records, renovation of wards, installation of modern oxygen delivery systems, introduction of private wing clinics, upgrade of the Accident and Emergency Department, improved internet connectivity, and procurement of critical medical equipment.
Dr. Umeakuewulu called for stronger support from communities, corporate organizations, philanthropists, and development partners, stressing that government alone cannot drive the transformation of the institution.
She also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for the opportunity to serve.
Responding, Chief Chinwuba congratulated the CMD on her appointment and assured her of the support of Awka indigenes at home and abroad. He described COOUTH as a vital institution with strong historical ties to the Awka community and pledged continued partnership to improve healthcare delivery.
The ADU Secretary General, Barr. Raphael Nzekwe, expressed confidence in the CMD’s leadership, saying the hospital was already witnessing positive changes and could attain world-class status under her administration.
