The Lagos State Government has received 16-year-old autistic cyclist, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, following his remarkable endurance cycling journey from Enugu to Lagos.
Kanyeyachukwu arrived in Lagos on Wednesday, accompanied by his parents, members of the Kanyeyachukwu Autism Foundation, cycling officials, and a medical support team. His journey covered the Enugu–Anambra–Lagos route, drawing attention to autism awareness and inclusion.
Welcoming the team, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, described the visit as both inspiring and symbolic.
He praised the teenager’s courage and determination, noting that the feat sends a strong message about resilience and the capabilities of individuals living with autism.
Ogunlende also commended the unwavering support of Kanyeyachukwu’s parents, emphasizing that their dedication played a crucial role in the success of the journey.
Speaking after his arrival, Kanyeyachukwu expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the warm reception, describing it as compassionate and encouraging.
The cyclist is expected to be formally received on Thursday by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the State House.
The endurance ride coincides with the global observance of World Autism Awareness Day, marked annually on April 2 under the United Nations framework.
The day promotes acceptance, inclusion, and recognition of the contributions of individuals living with autism across society (NAN).
