Over 400 residents of Ndiokpalaeze community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by Comareg Healthcare Foundation.
The outreach, held at the Ndiokpalaeze Civic Centre, provided residents with medical check-ups, drugs, counselling and health education. Common ailments, including malaria, typhoid, diabetes, hypertension and cough, were treated.
Speaking during the exercise, Executive Director and Founder of the foundation, Lady Princess Nwando Onyeagwalam, said the initiative was established in memory of her late parents, Sir Reginald Okoli and Lady Comfort Okoli, whose lives were dedicated to serving humanity.
She said the foundation was committed to bridging the healthcare gap in underserved communities and improving access to quality healthcare by 2030 through regular outreaches, health education, screening and referrals.
The foundation’s Head of Administration, Mr Peter Ubakeze, said the programme also focused on screening for blood pressure, blood sugar and other health conditions.
He said the foundation had conducted several free programmes since 2019 without asking beneficiaries to pay for the services.
Health Coordinator, Mrs Nsoke Gloria, said beneficiaries underwent tests for HIV, malaria, glucose and hepatitis, alongside general consultations and other examinations. She added that patients requiring specialist attention were referred to appropriate health facilities.
The outreach also featured sensitisation on gender-based violence (GBV), maternal and mental health, anti-corruption and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law.
The State Ministry of Health’s GBV Desk Officer, Mrs Chioma Offor, urged residents to report cases of abuse to the police and other appropriate authorities rather than settling them at community level.
President-General of Ndiokpalaeze Improvement Union, Barr Uchenna Obiora, commended the foundation for the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial to the community.
Beneficiaries, including Mazi Okezie Umeh and Mrs Chioma Okoli, expressed gratitude for the free medical services and appealed for the continuation of the programme.
The outreach attracted youths, women, elderly people and children from Ndiokpalaeze and neighbouring communities.
