The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has summoned the Area Commander and all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) serving within Onitsha for a high-level supervisory meeting following Wednesday’s incident at the Bridge Head area of the city.
The meeting, held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Command headquarters in Awka, formed part of the Commissioner’s efforts to strengthen operational supervision, accountability and professionalism within the police command, particularly in Onitsha, one of Anambra’s major commercial hubs.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, CP Oji Ama directed the DPOs to provide detailed briefings on the security situation and policing activities within their respective areas of responsibility, with particular emphasis on measures to prevent and address unprofessional conduct by officers and men under their command.
The Commissioner warned that any police officer found abusing the powers entrusted to him or engaging in conduct inconsistent with the standards of the Nigeria Police Force would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with established regulations.
SP Ikenga said CP Oji Ama reiterated his zero-tolerance policy for police misconduct, stressing that no individual or group of personnel would be allowed to undermine the trust and confidence reposed in the police by members of the public.
He added that the Commissioner charged the DPOs to strengthen internal supervision, maintain effective command and control, enforce strict compliance with professional standards and promptly address genuine complaints from residents, traders and business owners within their jurisdictions.
The Commissioner assured residents of Onitsha and the people of Anambra State that the Command remained committed to providing effective, professional, accountable and people-oriented policing.
SP Ikenga further quoted CP Oji Ama as urging members of the public to report security concerns and genuine complaints through appropriate channels, including the Commissioner of Police’s dedicated WhatsApp line: 09169531886.
He assured that all credible complaints received would be given the necessary attention and appropriately investigated.
