The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to securing Nigeria’s maritime domain and protecting critical national assets to boost economic stability and energy security.

Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, gave the assurance at the 2nd International Conference on Maritime, Trade and Transport organised by the Global Maritime Academy at the Petroleum Training Institute Conference Centre, Delta State.

Represented by Delta State Commandant, Chinedu Igbo, Audi said Nigeria’s maritime sector holds huge economic potential but continues to face threats such as piracy, illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism and attacks on offshore infrastructure.

He noted that the conference theme, “The Maritime Sector: Harnessing the Potentials, Challenges and Future Trends,” aligns with the NSCDC mandate of protecting critical infrastructure, including oil and gas facilities, ports and communication installations.

Igbo said the Corps had strengthened its professionalism, intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration, while repositioning its Marine and Anti-Vandal units to tackle emerging maritime threats.

He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, private operators and international partners to achieve a secure and prosperous maritime environment.

The conference featured technical sessions, paper presentations and an induction ceremony into the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport of Nigeria.
