Road users and residents of Nnewi have commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nnewi Unit Command, for filling dangerous potholes along Ikemba Drive, Umuele Road, Umudim.

The palliative work, carried out under the “Safety on Nnewi Roads” initiative, targeted a critical black spot that had posed serious risks to motorists and other road users.

The Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Asochukwu Damian, said the intervention became necessary following the worsening condition of the road, which serves key locations including the road leading to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Permanent Site and the Customary Court, Nnewi.

The Sector Commander, FRSC Anambra State Command, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, commended the Nnewi Unit for the proactive intervention, describing it as a demonstration of the Corps’ commitment to preventing avoidable crashes and saving lives.

Asekhauno, however, appealed to the Nnewi North Local Government Council and other relevant authorities to undertake permanent rehabilitation of the road.

She said the FRSC would continue to promote proactive road safety measures, public enlightenment and collaboration with stakeholders to make roads safer.
