Police arrest 17 suspected cultists in Awka raid

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) have arrested 17 suspected cultists during a raid on a hideout in Awka.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operation was carried out in the early hours of Saturday following credible intelligence. Items recovered included substances suspected to be cannabis, condoms, petroleum jelly, and other exhibits linked to ongoing investigations.

Preliminary investigations allegedly revealed that the suspects are linked to the Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Bagger.”

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, warned that cultism, drug abuse, and other criminal activities would not be tolerated in the state, adding that investigations are ongoing.
