20-year-old arrested for allegedly killing father in Abatete

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Pascal Ogbogu, for allegedly murdering his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area.


According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred on the evening of August 25, 2026, when the suspect allegedly attacked his father and fled the scene.


Police operatives from Eziowelle Police Division, assisted by family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante, responded to the distress call and found the deceased in a pool of blood with a deep machete wound to the throat.


The body was evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.


The suspect was arrested in the early hours of August 26 following coordinated efforts by the police, vigilante personnel and community members who provided information that aided his tracking and arrest.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the community and security personnel for their prompt response and cooperation.


He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, assuring that the suspect would face due process in accordance with the law.
