Anambra State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Patrick Agha Mba, has assured residents that greater achievements await the state as Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration continues to invest in sports infrastructure and youth development.
Speaking during the 2026 Olympic Day celebration in Awka, Agha Mba said the annual event promotes the Olympic values of unity, healthy living and grassroots sports participation.
The fitness walk, organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, began at the ABS headquarters, passed through major roads in Awka and ended at the Awka City Stadium, where participants took part in aerobics and other recreational activities.
The commissioner commended Governor Soludo for completing projects such as the Ekwulobia Township Stadium and the Country Club, describing them as key investments that will expand access to quality sporting facilities and empower young people.
Representing the Nigerian Olympic Committee, Jennifer Okoye said the celebration encourages mass participation in sports and healthier communities.
Other stakeholders, including Awka North Council representative Augustine Onukwube, Anambra Football Association Chairman Chikelue Iloenyosi, former NYCN Chairman Emeka Obi and ASTUC Youth President-General Ken Okoli, praised the state government’s commitment to sports development and youth engagement.
The event concluded with aerobics, a taekwondo display and the presentation of International Olympic Committee Certificates of Participation to attendees.
