Jubilation as Onitsha Engineering Regiment Commander  unveils playground for military children’s recreation

It was an epoch making event on Monday December 15, 2025 at 14 Field Engineer Regiment Army barracks Onitsha, Anambra State  as the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) officially unveiled a newly constructed playground designed to promote relaxation, recreation, and bonding among military children which was constructed by the commanding Officer, Lt Col Eric Kpamber.

The unveiling ceremony performed by the commanding Officer 14 Field Engineer Regiment Onitsha, Lt Col Eric Kpamber at the Command playground within the barracks attracted senior military officers, which includes Col Muhammed Yakubu Commander 302 Artillery Regt Onitsha, Army soldiers wives association, children living in the barracks, among others.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Patrick Akobo, Diocesan Public Affairs Analyst, to journalists. in Onitsha.

Speaking during the unveiling, Lieutenant Colonel Kpamber reflected nostalgically on his childhood days in the barracks, recalling that there were no purpose-built recreational facilities for children at the time.

He explained that this experience inspired his decision to go beyond routine duty by providing a befitting playground where children within the barracks could play safely and happily.

He added that the facility would also benefit families, noting that mothers naturally prefer to remain close to their children during playtime.

According to the Commanding Officer, the playground is equipped with modern recreational facilities, including an elevated centre stage, a water fountain, a basketball court, a chess-playing area, and various children’s playground equipment catering for all age groups.

It was a joyful day to be remembered by the children and families living in Onitsha Army barracks.
