The outgoing Community Women Leader (CWL) and President General of Ojoto Akanasato Women, Hon. Mrs. Anthonia Okonkwo, has urged women in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, to embrace peace, unity and forgiveness as essential ingredients for community development.
Speaking during the 2026 August Women’s Meeting held at Ojoto Town Hall, Mrs. Okonkwo appealed to members to continue living in love and support one another.
She also sought forgiveness from anyone she might have offended while discharging her duties and pledged her support for the incoming leadership.
Highlighting her administration’s achievements since 2022, she said the executive empowered 12 indigent women with startup funds, reviewed and adopted the association’s constitution, supported sick members with medical assistance, installed two industrial cassava processing machines, and ensured the association remained debt-free.
Mrs. Okonkwo called on members to give maximum support to the incoming Community Women Leader, Engr. Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo, who promised an inclusive and transparent administration focused on women and youth empowerment.
The Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi, urged mothers to discourage their children from the quest for quick wealth and instead promote education, skills acquisition and hard work.
Officials of the Ministry of Women Affairs also encouraged women to report cases of gender-based violence and child abuse, stressing the need to speak out against all forms of abuse.
Representatives of the traditional institution, political leaders and other dignitaries commended Mrs. Okonkwo’s leadership and called on the women to sustain the spirit of unity for the progress of Ojoto community.
