One of the leading aspirants for the Nnewi North Local Government Chairmanship under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Cornel Osigwe, has received the royal blessing of the traditional ruler of Nnewi, His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr Kenneth Orizu III.

Mr Osigwe paid a courtesy visit to the palace where he formally notified the monarch of his intention to contest the forthcoming Nnewi North Local Government Chairmanship election.

He explained that his decision to vie for the position was anchored on the long-standing zoning and rotational agreement among the four quarters of Nnewi, reached in 1997, which stipulates that it is the turn of Nnewichi to produce the next council chairman.

During the visit, Mr Osigwe expressed profound gratitude to Igwe Nnewi for consistently upholding and reaffirming the rotational arrangement, describing it as a vital instrument for equity, peace, and unity among the people of Nnewi.

He noted that the Igwe’s firm pronouncement in favour of Nnewichi’s turn had further strengthened confidence in the traditional institution as a custodian of justice and fairness.

In his response, Igwe Dr Kenneth Orizu III placed his hands on Mr Osigwe and offered prayers for divine guidance and protection.

The revered monarch prayed God to be with him throughout his political journey, grant him wisdom, understanding, and good judgment, and lead him successfully toward emerging as the next Mayor of Nnewi North.

Igwe Nnewi further prayed that, should Mr Osigwe emerge victorious, God would help him to be a purposeful, people-oriented, and performing council chairman who would serve Nnewi North diligently and advance the collective interest and development of the area.

The royal blessing is widely seen as a significant morale booster for Mr Osigwe’s aspiration, coming at a time when the issue of zoning and adherence to the 1997 rotational agreement remains central to the Nnewi North chairmanship discourse.
