The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Njikoka Constituency 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Amb. Charles Isintume, has called for peace, unity and collective development in Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area.
Isintume made the call on Friday, September 25, 2026, during the 2026 New Yam Festival of Nawfia community, held at the palace of the traditional ruler, Igwe Obele.
The NDC candidate, who paid homage to the traditional ruler as part of activities marking the festival, described Nawfia as an important community within his constituency and the Enugwu-Ukwu clan.
He said his presence was to identify with the people and honour the traditional institution while celebrating the community’s cultural heritage.
“First and foremost, I came to pay respect to Igwe Nawfia because Nawfia is part of Enugwu-Ukwu and also under the constituency I will represent after the 2027 election. I deemed it fit to be here in person to witness the festival,” he said.
Isintume said cultural festivals remained important avenues for promoting peace, unity, cultural identity and development, stressing that meaningful progress could only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and cooperation.
“My message to the good people of Nawfia is peace, unity and good legacy. Without peace and unity, there will be no progress,” he stated.
Speaking on his political ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections, Isintume said his agenda for Njikoka Constituency 1 was anchored on quality representation, human capital development and accountability.
He pledged to protect the interests of the people of Enugwu-Ukwu, Nawfia and Enugwu-Agidi at the State House of Assembly if elected, while prioritising youth empowerment programmes aimed at reducing poverty and creating opportunities.
On the 2027 elections, the NDC candidate said structures were being put in place across polling units in Njikoka Constituency 1 to ensure that votes count, adding that he would work with supporters and stakeholders to prevent a recurrence of what he described as the experience of 2023.
In his response, the traditional ruler of Nawfia thanked Isintume for identifying with the community during the New Yam Festival and prayed for continued peace and progress in the community.
