The Ikenga Umueri Progressive Union has threatened legal action against the Chairman of Anambra East LGA, Hon. Ifeanyi Chinweze, over alleged comments labeling some of its members as IPOB terrorists.

In a statement by its General Assembly and Elders Council, the group gave the chairman 48 hours to issue an unreserved public apology or face court action. It warned that the remark could endanger the lives of Ikenga Umueri indigenes at home and abroad.

The union also cautioned against intimidation ahead of the Umueri General Assembly (UGA) election scheduled for April 8, insisting that all previously cleared candidates be allowed to contest without alteration.

It rejected any attempt to introduce new nominations or micro-zoning, particularly affecting Otuocha Quarter, adding that such moves would violate established electoral processes.

Describing the chairman’s statement as “defamatory and reckless,” the group vowed to pursue all lawful means if no apology is issued, while reaffirming its commitment to peace and unity in Umueri.
