Former President Goodluck Jonathan
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to calls urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election, saying he would consult widely before taking any decision.
Jonathan made the remark on Thursday while addressing youth groups who visited his Abuja office to encourage him to join the race. According to him, the presidency is “not a computer game” and requires serious consideration.
The former president also urged Nigerian youths to promote peace and credible elections, warning that lack of transparent electoral processes discourages competent citizens from participating in politics.
He expressed concern over low voter turnout in Nigeria and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the problem through wider consultations and reforms.
Jonathan further challenged young people to obtain their voter cards and participate actively in elections, stressing that meaningful political change requires civic involvement.
He added that he would continue consultations before deciding whether to participate in the 2027 presidential contest.
