Chairman of GUO Transport, Chief Godwin Okeke, has called on government, corporate organizations, and community stakeholders to work together to tackle the poor state of infrastructure in schools across Anambra State.
Okeke made the appeal during the commissioning of five newly built classroom blocks at Archbishop Onyemelukwe Grammar School, Oroma-Etiti, in Anambra West Local Government Area. The project formed part of activities marking his 77th birthday and his wife’s 72nd birthday.
The facility comprises furnished classrooms, staff offices, and sanitary facilities designed to provide a better learning environment for students.
According to the philanthropist, many schools in Anambra still lack essential facilities, making it difficult for students to learn effectively.
“The government and communities cannot do it alone. Stakeholders must contribute towards improving education and developing human capital,” he said.
Okeke also announced a ₦100 million scholarship fund for Anam indigenes, to be disbursed in annual installments of ₦20 million. He urged successful individuals and corporate organizations to support schools through infrastructure projects and scholarship programmes.
During the event, he also performed the foundation-laying ceremony for a new All Saints Anglican Church building, describing the project as a legacy that would benefit future generations.
Speaking at the occasion, Bishop of Niger East, Rt. Rev. Obiora Uzochukwu, praised Okeke’s commitment to community service and urged others to emulate his generosity.
Traditional ruler of Ivite-Anam Kingdom, Igwe Sunday Ozoemena, said the intervention would improve learning conditions and encourage more investments in community development.
