College of Nursing Sciences, NAUTH matriculates 164 student nurses, 126 student midwives

The College of Nursing Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, has matriculated and capped 164 student nurses and 126 student midwives.

The event, which was the 26th Matriculation and Capping Ceremony of the 2024 set, was held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Gilbert Uzodike Auditorium, NAUTH, with the theme “Entrepreneurship: A Veritable Tool for Resilience.”

Representing the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of NAUTH, Prof. Joseph Ugboaja (OON), Dr. Odili Okoye congratulated the students, urging them to embrace hard work and discipline in the pursuit of their careers.

He advised them to shun distractions and peer pressure, adding that the institution provides a conducive environment for learning.

“If you want to succeed in this great citadel, you must work hard, prepare yourself ahead of time by reading at least four hours a day. Be wise and remember your root. Don’t allow anyone to deceive you,” he said.

The Acting Provost of the College, Mrs. Uyoh Eudora Uzoma, encouraged the students to seek wisdom beyond the classroom and build meaningful relationships.

She noted that the college, which received full accreditation in May 2023, has continued to record remarkable achievements, including producing the best overall student in the Professional Qualifying Examination and winning awards for discipline and excellence.

She, however, highlighted challenges facing the college, including the need for a modern administrative building, fully equipped classrooms, hostels, entrepreneurship workshops, library, and ICT facilities. She appealed to the hospital management, philanthropists, parents, and the Nnewi community to support the institution in addressing these needs.

Mrs. Uzoma expressed appreciation to Prof. Ugboaja for his continuous support, as well as to other members of NAUTH management, staff, retired principals, parents, and guardians for their roles in the students’ success.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Chika C. H. Odira, alongside other speakers, including Mrs. J. U. Ugochukwu and Mrs. N. N. Onyejekwe, charged the students to view nursing as a noble calling and to remain focused on their studies.
