The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS5.3 Anambra Sector Command, has recovered a suspected stolen Toyota Corolla during a routine vehicle documentation and verification exercise at the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) Desk Office in Awka.
According to the Sector Public Education Officer, SRC Margaret Onabe, discrepancies in the vehicle’s chassis number prompted further checks, which revealed that the vehicle already had an ownership record in the NVIS database.
Investigators also discovered that the chassis number had allegedly been altered.
Further findings linked the vehicle to a reported abduction incident in October 2022 involving the registered owner’s wife, after which the vehicle went missing.
The individual who presented the vehicle for documentation and the dealer who allegedly sold it were arrested by police for further investigation. The vehicle has since been handed over to the police.
Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, urged members of the public to verify ownership documents before buying used vehicles and report suspicious transactions to security agencies, reaffirming the FRSC’s commitment to combating vehicle-related crimes.
