Community mourns as Mrs Omelogo Uzor dies at 59

The town of Atani in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Mrs. Josephine Omelogo Uzor, popularly known as “Young.” She died at the age of 59.

Mrs. Uzor, born in 1966 to the family of late Mr. John Okonta and late Mrs. Alice Nzeluagbo Chukwurah of Umu Chima Kindred, Umuonyi Village, Ohita, was known for her humility, hard work and contributions to family and community life.

After completing her secondary education, she married the late Hon. Desmond Onuorah Uzor of the Umuezeisama Royal Family, Umuekeke Vintage, Atani. Their marriage was blessed with four children.

A prominent trader, Mrs. Uzor was widely known in both northern and southern Nigeria for her involvement in the yam seed business. She travelled extensively during farming seasons and was described by associates as diligent and supportive, particularly to her family, church and those in need.

She was also an active member of Redeemer Anglican Church, Atani, where she served as Pastor’s Warden and Church Treasurer until her death. She was nominated in 2025 as Archdeaconry Nominee and Synod Delegate and was a member of the Women’s Guild and Mothers’ Union.

Beyond her religious activities, she participated in various social clubs, including Diamond Original, Quality Ladies and China Club. She earned the nickname “Young” among her peers for her energetic involvement in cultural activities.

During her burial, family members and guests paid glowing tributes. Her son, Ogechukwu Desmond Uzor, described her as a source of love and encouragement, while another son, Arinze Uzor, referred to her as his backbone and moral guide. Her brother, Mr. Benson Chukwurah, praised her humility and generosity.

Dignitaries who attended the burial, including Ibemere Bethel Chinenye, Hon. Ikechukwu Nwokocha, High Chief Barr. Christian Ezennaya and Onowu Uti na Atani, commended her industriousness and urged her children to uphold her values.

Mrs. Uzor is survived by her children, relatives and community members who say her legacy of faith, service and hard work will be remembered.
