CEDYK storms Red Cross home with lifeline support, urges wealthy Nigerians to remember less privileged

The Duke of CEDYK, Nnewi South, Anambra State, Iyke Uzukwu, has called on wealthy individuals in society to always make provision for the less privileged in their budgets.

Uzukwu made the call when members of CEDYK, a non-governmental organization based in Nnewi South, visited the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Nnewi North Local Government Area to present an undisclosed cash donation to support the upkeep of inmates at the home.

According to him, the organization is committed to positively impacting the lives of vulnerable persons, combating moral decadence such as prostitution, empowering youths, and encouraging agricultural development.

He disclosed that CEDYK, which boasts over 1,000 members, has continued to record successes in its humanitarian drive and has already designed programmes aimed at expanding its outreach across communities.

Speaking during the visit, one of the founding fathers of the organization and Professor of Agricultural Extension at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Frank Anaeto, explained that CEDYK initially began as a political pressure group before evolving into a humanitarian organization focused on poverty alleviation and community support.

“We have reactivated CEDYK to make it a poverty-alleviating organization dedicated to visiting less privileged homes. We have birthed a new CEDYK where our activities revolve around being our brother’s keeper.

“However, CEDYK can still listen to politicians when they need our presence and attention. We can also work with political actors who require our support.

Nobody owns us, but we can partner with politicians when necessary. Beyond that, we are also thinking seriously about establishing a cooperative society,” he said.

Anaeto further revealed that the organization is self-funded and that its leadership remains committed to repositioning the group with fresh ideas and renewed humanitarian goals.

He added that, beyond visiting motherless and less privileged homes, the organization also plans to extend assistance to beggars and vulnerable persons on the streets within the limits of its financial capacity.

Receiving the delegation, the Matron of the home, Mrs. Grace Ezechukwu, appreciated members of CEDYK for the gesture, noting that the donation would help address some pressing challenges facing the facility.

She assured the group that the funds would be judiciously utilized and identified some of the immediate needs of the home to include funding support, a functional vehicle, and the construction of nursery and primary school facilities.
