The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has said that understanding and respecting the culture, traditions and values of the people is critical to effective and people-centred policing.
CP Nnanna stated this on Thursday, September 3, 2026, when he received the state Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr Law Mefor, and the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr Udoji Amedu, who paid a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Awka.
The police commissioner noted that effective policing goes beyond enforcing laws, stressing that security personnel must understand the cultural heritage, traditions, values and peculiarities of the communities they serve.
According to him, such understanding would strengthen the ability of the Police to effectively protect lives and property while building stronger relationships with the people.
He also called for sustained collaboration between the Police, relevant ministries, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders to enhance public confidence, deepen community engagement and promote sustainable peace and security across Anambra.
CP Nnanna reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to its open-door policing policy and strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening trust and cooperation between the Police and residents of the state.
Earlier, the visiting commissioners commended the Anambra State Police Command for its efforts towards enhancing security and maintaining public safety.
They pledged continued collaboration with the Command in promoting peace and security, positive value reorientation and the preservation of Anambra’s rich cultural heritage.
