Anambra-born Chnyere Mbonu   wins Commonweaelth youth award,  becomes Ambassador

A 38-year old Anambra State-born female youth activist,  Chinyere Mbonu has won the title of Commonwealth Society Youth Ambassador at a prestigious event marking the 2025 Commonwealth Day celebration at the Nigeria National Merit House, Maitama, FCT, Abuja.         

The event, organized by the Commonwealth Society of Nigeria, in collaboration with the United Organisations for Education and Sports Development, saw Chinyere receiving a Certificate of Exceptional Leadership for her remarkable contributions.               

 It was organized by the Commonwealth Society of Nigeria in partnership with the United Visionary Youth of Nigeria.        Mbonu was nominated for the role by Ambassador Goodluck Chineke Jonathan, President of the Commonwealth Society of Nigeria.

 According to a statement made available to newsmen in Awka, the State capital, yesterday,  Mbonu was on February 21, 2025, formally invited to the main award ceremony, which was part of the activities for the 2025 Commonwealth Day celebration.     

The press statement issued by Ify Aronu-Okafor, a youth development advocate and  anchor of The Light TV Show,  noted that the honour was bestowed on  Mbonu in recognition of her outstanding leadership qualities. 

The statement also noted: “In addition to the award certificate, Chinyere Mbonu was also presented with a Commonwealth International sealed identification card and a gold medal.

 “This recognition grants her the privilege of participating in high-level Commonwealth events worldwide, along with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to several Commonwealth countries.

“Her journey to this achievement began during the 2024 sporting competition held at Bubendorf Memorial Grammar School, Adazi.”

Chinyere Mbonu,  a native of Ebenebe, in Awka North LGA of Anambra State,  currently holds the title of Lolo of CYON Awka Diocese.
